The Testaments
Created for the Sunday Times Style to mark the release of Margret Atwood's The Testaments, 2019.
Three cyanotypes depicting mouths taken from vintage pornography, folded and stitched to make a work which is both singular and multiple.
A point of articulation; the circle, the orifice, the opening - contact between worlds.
Household bleach is used in combination with photosensitive pigment, the everyday and the extraordinary. Time as white sound - the memory lapses of trauma. Bleach and forgetting. A world too bright to regard directly.
The voice escapes. Things growing in quiet places,
between the cracks. Power and fecundity. Desire is policed, but nature is abundant.
The power of freedom is that it cannot be unlearnt.
